-Obama passing new law to allow searching of computers, American media silent.

Pamela at Atlas Shrugs posted a very interesting story earlier...well I suppose interesting might be the wrong way to put it. I'm sick of having to use the word "scary" but this falls into that category unfortunately.

"In extreme secrecy from the public, the Obama administration is hammering out an international treaty with other several other countries and the EU ......under ACTA, the government will get sweeping new powers to search and seize material thought to be in breach of copyright. But why all the secrecy? What it will do on a larger scale is let big brother watch you; however, this time on a completely different level."

"Border guards will be given unprecedented powers to search travelers without warning. They will be able to go through and confiscate any material a person has on their laptop."

"America is being overtaken by a culture of surveillance."

If Bush's Patriot Act was an infringement on freedom, privacy, and your liberty, then what the hell is this? And WHY haven't we heard about this in America? Spread the word on this developing nightmare.

-Big Brother Using GPS to Keep Track of You

big brother watches you drive barack obama
In Madison, Wisconsin, police can now secretly attach GPS units to any vehicle without needing to obtain a search warrant.

A district court ruling in a 2003 stalking case in which GPS tracking was used said that the tracking does not violate constitutional protections because the device only gave police information that could have been obtained through "visual surveillance"

"The idea that you can go and attach anything you want to somebody else's property without any court supervision, that's wrong," he said. "Without a warrant, they can do this on anybody they want." said Larry Dupuis, legal director of the ACLU of Wisconsin

Just another loophole for corrupt politicians and government workers to take advantage of and control the populous. It is absolutely frightening what the government could legally do if it really wanted to. More of these ridiculous laws fly right under the radar as it is. Privacy issues for private citizens are being virtually ignored by both Republicans and Democrats.

-Rahm knows where you sleep....

It seems our buddy Rahm Emanuel needs to know exactly where every American lives. The longitude and latitude of your front door exact, with hand held GPS units, presumably run by ACORN. Apparently this is for the U.S. Census in the Commerce Department, but remember President Obama gave Rahm power over the census. I'm sure there is an excellent reason why Rahm Emanuel needs the longitude and latitude over every single home in American at the cost of 700 million taxpayer dollars. Getting the coordinates of literally the front door of every home has absolutely nothing to do with the census no matter how the White House tries to spin it. But no, it isn't a political move. Of course not.

Blogger Douglas Gibbs at American Daily Review had this frighteningly plausible proposition:

"Imagine, if you will, that there are a number of people in a neighborhood that could not find the addresses they are tasked with finding. They are not locals, maybe are unable to read a map, or perhaps do not have the time to pull out a map, and they need to find you with specific GPS coordinates. Their devices would lead them to your front door with these coordinates. Imagine a crisis is afoot, and martial law is put into place. U.S. troops need to round up particular folks," he wrote.

"Let's take this a step further. After all, with Barack Obama desiring to decrease the number of folks in the military, and with forces committed worldwide, we may not have sufficient military forces at home to deal with a rising national emergency. If the government decided to rely on foreign troops, perhaps United Nations personnel, most of which may not understand the street signs, much less know the lay of the land, they could use GPS devices to direct them to your front door," he wrote.

IMAGINE the uproar the media and the left would cause if Bush had implemented this system. It is easy to call this a conspiracy theory, but in all honesty it is hard to believe that the White House would send 140,000 workers costing 700 million dollars out into the streets to get all these coordinates within ninety days, when the census isn't until next year, to make it more cost efficient. What a joke. If you can think of a real possible reason, let me know.

-Michael Savage Banned in Britain

Right-wing radio talk show host Michael Savage is on a blacklist that has been announced in Britain. This blacklist is a list of people who are not allowed in Britain. Does this mean if Savage was living in Britain they would kick him out? Apparently. Britain no longer has free speech, arguably the most pivotal aspect of a democracy.

"I think it's important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it's a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won't be welcome in this country," Said Britain's Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

"Coming to this country is a privilege. If you can't live by the rules that we live by, the standards and the values that we live by, we should exclude you from this country and, what's more, now we will make public those people that we have excluded."

"We are telling people who they are and why it is we don't want them in this country,"

The list also includes Hamas leader Yunis Al-Astal, former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard Stephen Donald Black, neo-Nazi Erich Gliebe and radical pastor American pastor Fred Phelps, known for his virulent anti-gay protests at funerals. Phelps' daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper also is on the list.

"It's a privilege to come to this country. There are certain behaviors that mean you forfeit that privilege."

Britain is trying to lump Michael Savage in with Hamas, the KKK, and neo-Nazis? Maybe the radical Muslim population has already infiltrated their government. Britain's big brother is growing.

-Big Brother in Britain

This is pretty scary. Luckily it is only happening in Britain, for now.

From UK's The Independent:

The mobile calls, emails and website visits of every person in Britain will be stored for a year under sweeping new powers which come into force on Monday. Privacy campaigners warned last night that the information would be used by the Government to create a giant "Big Brother" super-database containing a map of everyone's private life.

The new powers will, for the first time, place a legal duty on internet companies to store private information, including email traffic and website browsing histories.

Although the new retention powers will not permit the storage of the content of emails or phone calls it will show details such as IP addresses, date, time and user telephone numbers. Under the terms of the EU directive, the Home Office has written to leading internet service providers and phone companies offering to compensate them for the costs incurred in retaining the data for a year.

A spokesman for the Internet Service Providers Association confirmed that the leading ISPs had received written orders from the Home Office setting out their obligations under the new rules.
Phil Booth of the civil rights campaign group, NOID, said: "Inch by inch, the Government's plans to map and monitor everyone's communications are creeping into place. Today it's retention of data, soon it'll be a giant database to suck it all up. And unless we speak out and stop this, what used to be private – details of your relationships and personal interests – will end up in the ever-widening control of the stalker state."

Last week the The Independent reported that millions of Britons who use social networking sites such as Facebook could soon have their every move monitored by the Government and saved on a "Big Brother" database.

There really is an extremely fine line between breaching privacy and security that we very often underestimate the complexity and fragility of. This act might just cross that line.
